What Fin does for you

Business vs personal, automatically

Every transaction is sorted the moment it lands, so your business spending stays separated from personal — no month-end cleanup, no spreadsheet.

Every deduction surfaced

Your actual spending is scanned for claimable expenses — tools, subscriptions, home-office, vehicle and travel — so you keep more of what you earn.

EOFY-ready in minutes

Hand your accountant a tidy, categorised summary instead of a shoebox. Your reports are ready whenever tax time comes around.

Bank fees, interest and the laptop — each on the right BAS label

One business account mixes a $12 bank fee (no GST, G14), a few dollars of interest (input-taxed, G4, not GST-free) and the occasional piece of equipment (capital, G10). A tax treatment on each category sends every line to its own label, so the activity statement is drafted with a source on each figure. You lodge it.

What you can claim

Plain-English guides to the deductions that come up most for work like yours — what usually counts, what usually does not, and the records worth keeping.

Online sellers & resellers

Global

If you sell online you can generally claim the cost of your stock, platform and payment fees, packaging and postage — and the point where a hobby becomes a business is what decides whether you declare the income at all.

Cleaners

As a cleaner you can generally claim the supplies and equipment you buy, protective clothing, and the cost of driving between clients during the day.

Rideshare & delivery drivers

As a rideshare or delivery driver you can generally claim the work portion of your car running costs, your phone and data, and app or platform fees.

Truck drivers

As a truck driver you can generally claim meal costs on eligible overnight trips, your work gear and protective clothing, and licence and union fees.

Fitness instructors & personal trainers

As a fitness instructor or personal trainer you can generally claim equipment you buy, music and programming subscriptions, first-aid and certification costs, and travel between clients or venues.

Hairdressers & beauty therapists

As a hairdresser or beauty therapist you can generally claim the scissors and tools you buy, products used in your work, and self-education that builds your skills.

Real estate agents

As a real estate agent you can generally claim work-related car travel, marketing costs you fund yourself, your phone, and licence and training costs.

Mechanics

As a mechanic you can generally claim the tools and equipment you buy, protective clothing and its laundering, and licences or training tied to your current work.

Flight attendants & cabin crew

Cabin crew returns turn on two things most occupations never meet: an allowance that may not cover what a layover actually costs, and grooming rules that feel compulsory but are mostly not deductible.

Bus & coach drivers

Bus and coach work splits sharply at the depot gate: a regular route rarely produces travel or meal claims, while overnight charter work can produce quite a few.

Guides marked Global also come in 8 markets — including the UK, US, Canada, India and the UAE.

Did you know?

A tub of Chobani yoghurt became taxable purely because it came with a separate pouch of cookie and white-chocolate pieces — making it a 'combination food'.

In a 16 June 2023 ruling the Administrative Appeals Tribunal sided with the Tax Commissioner that Chobani's Flip Strawberry Shortcake yoghurt, sold with baked cookie and white-chocolate bits, was a taxable combination food rather than GST-free plain yoghurt.

The tax helped wreck the ruling party: months after the 3% tax launched, the LDP lost its Upper House majority for the first time in the July 1989 election, with tax anger compounding the Recruit bribery scandal that had already forced Takeshita to resign.

It was the first time the Liberal Democratic Party lost the popular vote in a national election since its 1955 founding (the vote was held 23 July 1989).

Sole traders — common questions

Can it separate my business and personal spending?

Yes. Transactions are recognised as business or personal and sorted automatically, so your books stay clean without manual tagging.

What can I claim as a sole trader?

AI2Fin surfaces common sole-trader deductions straight from your spending — things like tools, software subscriptions, home-office costs, vehicle and travel expenses — so you can review and claim what applies. AI2Fin helps you find and organise potential deductions; always confirm what applies to you with your accountant or tax authority.

Does it connect to my bank?

Yes — it uses secure, read-only bank feeds to import your transactions automatically. Your banking credentials are never stored, and you can disconnect anytime.

My bank charges fees and pays interest on the same account — how do they go on the BAS?

Differently, and that is the point of the tax treatment column. A bank fee has no GST in its price, so it is a purchase at G11 noted again at G14 with nothing to claim. Interest you receive is input-taxed income at G1 and G4 — not GST-free — and it can deny credits on related purchases. Fin sets those treatments on the Bank Fees and Interest categories by default and shows where each figure came from on the statement. AI2Fin helps you find and organise potential deductions; always confirm what applies to you with your accountant or tax authority.

Is there a free plan for a sole trader?

Yes. Start on the free plan and upgrade only when it is saving you real time and money. See the plans below.
