Invoicing, your way

Invoice from any tool. Fin tracks it to paid.

2Fin works with whatever you invoice with — Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, Stripe, Square or a PDF template. It keeps the list of what each client owes, matches each payment when it lands and counts it as income, so your GST and tax estimate stay current. Connect your assistant and it drafts the next invoice in your own tool from what 2Fin knows.

Three steps, any invoicing tool

Your invoicing stays where your clients already pay it. 2Fin is the layer behind it that knows who owes you what, sees the money arrive and puts it in the right place — one invoicing system, and one picture of your money.

1. Invoice where you do today

Send it from your accounting app, an invoicing app, a payments tool or a PDF template, on whatever terms you set — due on receipt, seven days, thirty. Your clients see nothing new.

2. Tell 2Fin what is owed

Add the client, the amount, the due date and the invoice number, or upload a PDF or photo of the invoice and confirm what Fin read. A retainer can repeat weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.

3. Fin matches the payment

When the money lands, Fin links it to what you were owed, files it as income under the category you chose and marks the invoice paid, so your income, GST and tax estimate stay current.

Matched only when it is certain

Fin links a payment to an invoice on its own only when two things are both true: the amount is exactly what is owed, and either the payer is named in full or the invoice number appears in the bank text — with no other invoice close behind. Anything less certain becomes a question with Yes and No, and a pairing you turn down is never suggested again. A payment Fin did not catch can be pointed at the invoice it pays from the transaction itself. How money you are owed sits on Upcoming.

While you wait to be paid

Every open invoice lives on one list with the rest of what is about to happen to your money, and whatever needs a decision sits at the top.

Everything owed, in date order

Money you are owed sits on Upcoming beside your bills and pay days, totalled for the window you choose — so whether the rates can wait for Acme’s invoice is a glance.

Overdue, flagged for you

An invoice whose due date passes with no payment moves to Overdue in Needs a look at the top of Upcoming, inside the app.

Is this the payment?

A payment that might be the one you were owed comes with Yes and No. Yes links it; No is remembered.

Partly paid, or written off

Part payments keep the balance on the list; a balance that will never arrive can be written off in one step.

Invoices you upload or forward

Upload a PDF or a photo of an invoice — or, on AUTO+, forward it to your own 2Fin address — and Fin reads it and asks one question: is this an invoice you sent, or a bill to pay? Your answer is remembered for invoices that look the same. Invoices you sent become money you are owed, bills become upcoming bills, and nothing is saved until you confirm.

Invoice with your assistant

Connect Claude or another assistant to 2Fin’s MCP server, and to your invoicing tool’s own connector — Xero, QuickBooks Online and Stripe each publish one. Your assistant then has both halves: 2Fin tells it what to invoice, and your invoicing tool is where it drafts the invoice for you to approve. Once it is sent, the assistant records it in 2Fin, and the payment is matched when it lands. Every tool below is on every plan.

What clients still owe

query_expected_income, view open: every invoice expected, partly paid or overdue, with the client, number, amount, due date and what is outstanding.

What each client has paid

query_expected_income, view by_payer: income received over a period, grouped by client or payer.

The work behind the invoice

query_expected_income, view work_done: the hours you recorded against your home or business places and the business trips in your logbook.

Record it once it is sent

record_expected_income: “I invoiced Acme $2,400, due 15 October” becomes money you are owed. The assistant asks you to confirm before it writes.

Try a prompt like this

“Using 2Fin, show me the hours I worked from my home office last month and what Acme Consulting has paid me this financial year. Then draft an invoice to Acme in QuickBooks for last month’s work at $120 an hour, due in 14 days, and show me the draft before you send anything. Once it is sent, record it in 2Fin as expected income with the invoice number and due date.”

2Fin reads your figures and records what you approve; the assistant confirms each change with you first. Payments that arrived through a bank feed stay inside 2Fin, and the Expected income page in the app shows the full picture. Connect an assistant.

Build it into your own workflow

The same records reach the rest of your stack. Push transactions and expenses in through the Integrations API, send signed webhooks to Zapier, Make, n8n or your own endpoint, push sorted transactions to Xero or QuickBooks Online (in beta), and connect any assistant through MCP — all documented, with an API reference and an OpenAPI file. Build on 2Fin.

Invoicing, answered

Questions about invoicing with 2Fin

Which invoicing tools work with 2Fin?
Any of them. Fin watches the payment arriving, not the tool that sent the invoice, so an accounting app, an invoicing app, a payments tool or a PDF template all work the same way. Record the invoice in 2Fin, upload it, or have your assistant record it, and the payment is matched when it lands in a feed you connected or a statement you uploaded.
Can my assistant write the invoice?
Yes, in your own invoicing tool. Connect Claude or another assistant to 2Fin’s MCP server and to your invoicing tool’s own connector. It reads what the client owes and has already paid, plus the hours and trips you recorded, drafts the invoice in your tool for you to approve, and once it is sent records it in 2Fin as money you are owed — on every plan.
Is an unpaid invoice counted as income?
Only once it is paid. An invoice waiting to be paid shows as money you are owed; the income is counted on the day the money arrives, filed under the category you chose, so your tax estimate reflects money you actually have.
What happens when a client pays part of an invoice?
The invoice is marked partly received and stays on Upcoming for the balance. When the rest arrives it is matched the same way, and if the balance will never come you can write it off, which takes it out of what you are owed without touching what was paid.
How do card and platform payouts get matched?
A bank transfer for the exact amount from a client named in full matches on its own. A payout from a card processor or a marketplace usually lands net of its fees, under the processor’s name, so you link it yourself from the transaction — and Fin remembers a pairing you turn down, so it never suggests it again.
What does invoice tracking cost?
Tracking what clients owe, matching payments and the Upcoming list are on every plan, including Free, for as long as you like. Forwarding invoices to your own 2Fin address by email is on AUTO+.
