AI2Fin vs Hubdoc — capture for Xero, or a finance brain of your own?
Hubdoc is Xero’s own capture tool — included with Xero plans, or US$12 a month on its own: photograph a receipt, forward an invoice, and it pulls the header details — supplier, date, total — into Xero, and auto-fetches statements from over 700 banks and suppliers. AI2Fin is built for the owner rather than the ledger: a bank feed you connect yourself, receipts read line by line in over a hundred languages, budgets, bills, travel and vehicle deductions, GST kept separate, and a plain-language line to ChatGPT and Claude. If you already run on Xero, the honest question is whether you want capture, or a finance brain that then hands Xero coded transactions.
Where AI2Fin takes a different approach
Not better in every way for every user — but meaningfully different where it counts.
Line items, not just the total
Hubdoc reads the header of a document — who, when, how much. Fin reads the lines, so a hardware-store receipt with tools and personal items on it can be split, and GST is captured per line rather than assumed.
A bank feed you connect yourself
Connect a feed with a key you own — BankSync, SimpleFIN, Akahu, Up Bank, Monzo or Starling — or upload CSV or XLSX statements, point Fin at a Google Sheet, or use a watched folder on the desktop edition. Transactions are categorised and tax-tagged on the way in.
Receipts in 100+ languages, merchant kept as printed
By email, photo or Telegram, in over a hundred languages, with the merchant name kept in its original script and a translation beside it.
Budgets, bills and the tax picture as you go
Hubdoc feeds Xero. AI2Fin shows you budgets, recurring bills, travel and vehicle deductions and a running tax view — the parts you want to see before the accountant does.
Works beyond Xero
Direct connectors for Xero and QuickBooks Online (beta) that read your chart of accounts and coding history and push coded transactions with the receipt attached; a CSV export for MYOB; rows to Google Sheets, Excel, Notion or Airtable; and ChatGPT and Claude through MCP.
Free plan, and a desktop app that keeps data at home
AI2Fin starts free with no Xero subscription required. The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux keeps your database and receipts in a folder you own, with the option of your own model key or a local model.

Which one fits you?
Both are good tools — the right pick depends on what your business needs most.
Hubdoc suits you when…
- You already pay for Xero, your accountant works in it, and you want capture that is included in the price with nothing else to sign up for.
- Header-level capture is enough — supplier, date and total — because your accountant codes the rest inside Xero.
- Statement auto-fetch from your bank and suppliers is the feature you want most, and your institutions are among the 700+ Hubdoc supports.
- You want one vendor for capture and ledger, with the Xero mobile app as the only app your staff need.
AI2Fin suits you when…
- You want the line items — split receipts, GST per line, the merchant kept as printed — rather than the total alone.
- You want your finances tracked for you from a feed you control: budgets, recurring bills, travel and vehicle deductions and a running tax view.
- You are not on Xero, or not yet — AI2Fin starts free on its own, and connects to Xero or QuickBooks Online when you are ready.
- You want your numbers queryable in ChatGPT or Claude, flowing to Sheets, Notion or Airtable, and pushed to Xero as coded, receipt-attached transactions while the connector is in beta.

ENTERPRISE
Enterprise-grade data control is the default here — on every plan.
Your records can stay on your own machine or in your own cloud, telemetry stays off unless you turn it on, and Fin keeps an auditable record of everything it sends. Enterprise adds the people and the paperwork: dedicated support, custom deployment and reviews for large-scale operations.
Verify it yourselfAI2Fin vs Hubdoc — common questions
Hubdoc comes with my Xero plan — why would I use AI2Fin as well?
Because they do different jobs. Hubdoc captures the header of a document and files it into Xero. AI2Fin runs your finances on the owner’s side — bank feed, line-item receipts, budgets, bills, deductions and GST per transaction — and then hands Xero coded Spend or Receive Money transactions with the receipt attached, through a direct connector in beta. If capture into Xero is all you need, Hubdoc is already there; if you want the picture before it reaches the ledger, that is AI2Fin.
Does Hubdoc read line items from a receipt?
Hubdoc captures header-level data — supplier, date, total and tax where it can find it — which is what Xero needs for a bill. AI2Fin reads the individual lines, so a receipt mixing business and personal items can be split and GST is captured per line.
Can I use AI2Fin without a Xero subscription?
Yes. AI2Fin stands on its own with a free plan that needs no card and no accounting subscription. When you do connect a Xero or QuickBooks Online file, Fin reads its chart of accounts and coding history so its categories line up with the accounts already in use.
How does AI2Fin get transactions in if Hubdoc auto-fetches statements?
Hubdoc logs in to over 700 institutions to fetch statements and bills. With AI2Fin you connect the feed yourself with a key you own — BankSync, SimpleFIN, Akahu, Up Bank, Monzo or Starling — or upload CSV or XLSX statements, point Fin at a Google Sheet, or drop files into a watched folder on the desktop edition. Your banking password is never typed into AI2Fin.
Will AI2Fin send my bank-feed transactions into Xero?
Only if you say so. Pushes to Xero — in beta — carry the transactions you choose, as coded Spend or Receive Money with the receipt attached. Transactions that arrived through a bank feed you connected stay inside AI2Fin by default, where your reports and tax view still count them.
Is Hubdoc only for Xero?
It is owned by Xero and works best there, and it also publishes to QuickBooks Online. AI2Fin is ledger-neutral: direct connectors for Xero and QuickBooks Online in beta, a CSV export for MYOB and anything else, and rows to Google Sheets, Excel, Notion, Airtable and your own systems through webhooks.
