Connect AI2Fin to Xero
Your Xero file stays the ledger your accountant runs. AI2Fin becomes the place your day-to-day finances actually happen — bank feed, receipts, budgets, deductions — and learns how your file is coded so what it sends across already fits. The direct connector is in beta.
Xero
What Fin reads · beta
What does Fin read from Xero?
Your chart of accounts and the last twelve months of coding. From those, Fin proposes rules that map its own categories to the accounts your accountant already uses — you review them once.
Chart of accounts
Every account code and name, so each AI2Fin category can be pointed at the Xero account your accountant expects.
Twelve months of coding history
Which account each kind of spend has been going to. Fin uses it to propose the mapping rather than asking you to build one from scratch.
Proposed rules
A suggested category-to-account map you can accept, adjust or ignore. Nothing is applied until you say so.
What goes out to Xero?
BetaEach transaction you choose, as a coded Spend Money or Receive Money with the receipt attached — in beta. It lands in Xero with the account already set, ready to reconcile against your Xero bank feed.
Spend Money
A purchase, coded to the mapped account with the tax treatment Fin recorded, with the receipt image or PDF attached.
Receive Money
Income you recorded in AI2Fin, coded the same way, so the file sees both sides.
Receipt attachment
The original receipt travels with the transaction. Nothing is re-uploaded by hand on the Xero side.
Only what you chose
One transaction, a filtered batch, or a rule. Bank-feed rows stay in AI2Fin unless you include them.
How do you connect AI2Fin to Xero?
Sign in on Xero’s own screen, review the rules Fin proposes once, and push transactions when you are ready. Three steps.
Authorise on Xero’s screen
Choose Xero in AI2Fin’s integrations settings and sign in on Xero’s own page. You pick the organisation, and the connection appears in Xero’s connected apps where you can remove it at any time.
Review the proposed rules
Fin reads the chart of accounts and twelve months of coding and proposes a category-to-account map. Adjust anything, and the rules are used for every push afterwards.
Choose what to push
Pick the transactions to send — one at a time, a filtered batch, or by rule — and Fin creates each as a coded Spend or Receive Money with the receipt attached. Beta today; tell Fin how it goes.
Your bank-feed data stays out of pushes unless you say so
Transactions that arrived through a bank feed you connected — BankSync, SimpleFIN, Akahu, Up Bank, Monzo or Starling — stay inside AI2Fin by default. A push carries the transactions you choose: entries you typed in, imported from a CSV or XLSX, or captured from a receipt. If you want a bank-feed transaction sent to your ledger, you include it deliberately, one at a time or by rule — Fin never sweeps your feed into the accounting file on its own.
Does your accountant use a different ledger?
Both direct connectors work the same way and both are in beta. MYOB and any other ledger take a CSV export — the overview explains.
The integrations overview covers what every ledger connection has in common. For a spreadsheet, database or table you own instead, see Destinations.
Xero, answered
Common questions about the Xero integration
- Does AI2Fin replace Xero, or work alongside it?
- Alongside it. Xero stays the ledger and the place your accountant works; AI2Fin runs the owner’s side — bank feed, receipts, budgets, deductions — and sends Xero coded transactions with the receipt attached. If you are wondering whether you need Xero at all as a sole trader, the AI2Fin vs Xero comparison covers that question directly.
- What does “beta” mean for the Xero connector?
- That it is a direct connection being used by early customers while Fin refines it. You choose every transaction that is sent, and each one lands as a Spend or Receive Money you can edit or delete in Xero like any other. Expect the rule proposals and batch options to keep improving.
- Will pushes to Xero include my bank-feed transactions?
- Not unless you include them. Transactions that arrived through a bank feed you connected — BankSync, SimpleFIN, Akahu, Up Bank, Monzo or Starling — stay in AI2Fin by default; a push carries the transactions you chose. Your Xero bank feed then reconciles against what Fin sent.
- How does Fin know which Xero account to use?
- It reads your chart of accounts and the last twelve months of coding in the file, and proposes rules from what it finds — if software subscriptions have been going to one account all year, that is where Fin suggests they keep going. You review the rules once and can change any of them.
- Which Xero permissions does AI2Fin ask for?
- Read access to your accounting settings and transactions, to build the rule proposals, and write access to transactions and attachments for the push. The connection is scoped to the organisation you pick on Xero’s screen, is visible under Xero’s connected apps, and can be removed there without touching AI2Fin.
